Description
Moist, melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon rolls with a sticky cream cheese frosting to die for. The perfect dessert for family movie night or an after-school snack for kids.
Ingredients
DOUGH
- 2–1/2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/3 Cup Unsalted Butter, melted
- 1/4 Cup Whole Milk
- 1 Large Egg
- 1/4 Cup White Sugar
- 1 Tsp Salt
YEAST
- 2–1/2 Tsps Dry Active Yeast
- 1/2 Cup Warm Water
- 1 Tsp White Sugar
FILLING
- 1/4 Cup Butter
- 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
- 2 Tbs Cinnamon
FROSTING
- 1 Cup Confectioners’ Sugar
- 4oz Cream Cheese
- 2 Tbs Whole Milk
- 1 Tsp Vanilla
OTHER
- 2 Tsp Vegetable Oil for Mixing Bowl
- 2 Tbs All-Purpose Flour for surface
- 2 Tsp Butter for Baking dish
- 2 Tbs Melted Butter to top Cinnamon Rolls
Instructions
- The Yeast: Add the warm water to a small mixing bowl.
- Add the sugar and stir well.
- Sprinkle in the yeast and set aside for 5 to 10 minutes to activate.
- The Dough: Add the butter to a large mixing bowl, melt it in the microwave, then set aside.
- Once it cools down, add the milk and egg, then whisk well.
- Add the flour, sugar, and salt to a medium mixing bowl and whisk well.
- Add half of the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and blend on low speed with a hand mixer.
- Pour in the activated yeast and the remaining flour mixture.
- Blend everything with a hand mixer on low speed until a big ball of dough forms.
- Remove the dough from the bowl.
- Wipe down the mixing bowl with vegetable oil.
- Place the dough back into the oiled bowl.
- Cover with plastic wrap and set aside until it rises.
- Dust a flat surface and your rolling pin with flour.
- Place the dough on the floured surface and roll it out into a rectangle.
- Filling: Place a small skillet over medium heat, add the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon, and stir until melted.
- Pour the filling over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch space on the sides.
- Sprinkle a little water over the very end of the dough.
- Roll it up tightly from the bottom to the top, then slice it into cinnamon rolls.
- Baking and Frosting: Rub the baking dish with softened butter, add the cinnamon rolls, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for an hour.
- Add the sugar, cream cheese, whole milk, and vanilla to a medium bowl, and blend on low speed with a hand mixer until combined. Then refrigerate.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Once the cinnamon rolls have risen, remove the plastic wrap, melt a separate portion of butter, pour it over the rolls, and place them in the oven.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then remove and let cool for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Pour the frosting over the cinnamon rolls.
