Description

Delicious fried cabbage made with onions, peppers & pork bacon.


Ingredients

  • 2 Lbs of Cabbage
  • 2 Pork Bacon Strips, sliced
  • 1 Cup Onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Green Bell Pepper, coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Red Bell Pepper, coarsely chopped
  • 6 Tbs Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Tbs Butter
  • 1 Tbs Sugar
  • 11/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Onion Powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/8 Tsp Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Remove the stalk, the very inner core, and the outer layers of the cabbage, then chop the remaining cabbage into small pieces.
  2. Chop up the onions and peppers into small pieces.
  3. Place a skillet over medium-high heat, then add the oil and butter.
  4. Once the butter melts, add the bacon and fry for 4 minutes.
  5. Remove the bacon and set aside to chill.
  6. Once the bacon cools off, chop and break them into medium size pieces.
  7. Add a little cabbage to the skillet at a time and fold it into the fat until it’s glossy and wilts.
  8. Once all the cabbage wilts, add in the seasonings and stir well. 
  9. Cook the cabbage for about 30-35 minutes, stirring periodically.
  10. Add and stir the bacon into the cabbage, 10-15 minutes before it’s done. 

Notes

  • Start by using 1 tsp of salt. If you feel you need more, add another 1/2 tsp.
