Easy Bangin Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri Recipe

Bruuuh, it’s May, my birthday month…. and we’re approaching summer, summer, summer time in a few months…. (Im sure yall know that song) so ima bout to drop some fiya cocktail recipes in 2024 God’s willing and this one here is the first!!!

Sorry for the Philly hood slang; I’m just so pumped because I’m finally getting around to beverage recipes, which I’ve been lacking forever. This is only my 3rd beverage recipe EVER, EVER yall and I’ve been doing this since 2014. Smh!

Listen… eyeeeeeeez sorry bout dat!! But that will soon change. And so I’m starting out with this fire frozen strawberry daiquiri recipe. Strawberry is one of my favorite fruits so my first cocktail being a strawberry drink is no surprise.

It’s also no surprise to people who know me that I decided to do a frozen cocktail first because everyone know I get about 50 water ice’s per summer which is why Im so fat now. Google water ice if you’re not from Philly! Lol!

Make sure y’all try it my way first, which means following the recipe to a T before deviating and making it your way because I want your true opinion on it. Ok so let me get into why I love this recipe I’ve worked so hard on.

What to love about this recipe:

  • Easy to make: What I love most about frozen strawberry daiquiris is how easy they are to make. All you need is a blender, some alcohol, frozen strawberries, lime or lemon, sugar, and Whalaa. Your frozen daiquiri is ready to be served.
  • Refreshing: Nothing more refreshing than a cup of cold fresh frozen strawberries blended with ice into a nice smooth fruity beverage that’ll cool you down and relax you after a long jog through the park.
  • Everyone likes it: This is a fan favorite cocktail. So if you want to make one for a party, event, or any social gathering, this recipe will be a crowd pleaser. I mean who doesn’t like strawberries? Like.. NO REAL PERSON! Lol!

My fear of Alcoholic beverages

Ok so let me first start off by wowing yall with a few facts about myself. And while doing so I’ll get a little personal and transparent. But before that, let me first tell yall I’m a introvert, so Im still to this day not big on bars and clubs.

I say that to say, bars and clubs are where young folks usually have their first alcoholic beverage. And alcohol was never really a thing for me because I didn’t like how it made me feel or how it made the people I saw drinking it, act. 

And as I shared with you all before, I was afraid to taste because I saw what it did to some people close to me who I loved and are no longer with us. Anyway, before I ruin the fun… I also always thought it was nasty just based on how it smelt.

My aunts and uncles breathe stank when they would drink. So I think that turned me off too, not to mention how out of control it made them act during family get together and parties. I would think to myself, that’s what it do to you?

lmbbo! Anyway, my crazy aunt Pam gave me a little when I was like 16! Lmbbo! It disgusted me and made me puke. Not just that but it made me dizzy and nauseous, so I knew I would be someone who couldn’t hold alcohol well.

Long story short, you wont believe this but I never tried alcohol again until my early 30s when I realized I could be a social drinker and drink with self control. I started out with a sip of beer, then a cup of wine became a shot of liquor and yea…

That was all she wrote… I would have a sip or two here and there at social events and then I my worst fear happened and I became a full time heavy drinker up until recently where I stopped drinking more than 1 shot per month. Congrats to me.

It’s funny because at 31, if you asked me what a Spirit or Brandy was, I couldn’t tell you. I barely knew the difference between dry and sweet wine or what acv or proof represented! I was so clueless! Hahaha!

First time trying a frozen strawberry daiquiri

Yall won’t believe me when I tell ya this but the first time I tried a frozen strawberry daiquiri was at Olive Garden. Lol! Yea, I know… dont laugh! The first cocktail of there’s I tried was their berry sangria. I would order that for a while.

Then I moved on to the Moscato, then frozen strawberry daiquiri. That’s when I decided to make my own because they would make their too bitter for my liking. Anyway, I know yall are laughing to yourselves thinking, he loves Olive Garden.

Yea as yall know, that was me and my aunt Lorrettas spot from 2017-2019ish! Havent been there much after Covid. Anyway, Olive Garden is once again responsible for another one of my delicious recipes, this time a alcoholic beverage.

Ok so let’s get into all the ingredients you’re going to need a long with the alternatives and what cookware and utensils you’re going to need. What makes this recipe great is you only need a few of each.

Cookware and utensils you’ll need:

  • Knife: You’ll need a knife to cut off the strawberry leaves
  • Blender: To combine and blend the drink.
  • Measuring Cups: To get an accurate measurement of alcohol, ice, sugar, and syrup.
  • Measuring Spoons: To get an accurate measure of lime & lemon juice, and food coloring.

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Base: Frozen Strawberries
  • Alcohol: Rum or Vodka
  • Tartness: Lime or Lemon Juice
  • Sweetener: Syrup and Sugar
  • Color: Red food coloring
  • Cold: Ice

White Rum

For a traditional Daiquiri, use Rum. A classic daiquiri is made with white rum and the best brand IMO is Bacardi. The best replacement for white rum is another clear liquor, preferably Vodka!

  • Liquor ratio: If go into a sports bar, or restaurant and you find that your cocktail has little to no alcohol in it… so little that you have to ask your waiter or waitress if you ordered a virgin cocktail or not?

    Well, we’ve all been there which is why I want to touch on the strength of the alcohol. This is a cocktail, not a glass of liquor folks. Cocktails are not meant to taste like alcohol but some folk like there’s strong.

    So let me get into the amounts I use. A shot in the US is equivalent to 3 to 4 tablespoons, which is around about 1/4 cup. In this recipe, I use 3 shots which is 3/4 cups of liquor. You can use a 1/2 cup or even less if you dont want a buzz. How much you use is your choice but I use 3/4 cup of rum because most folk want to really taste the liquor.

Strawberry syrup and Sugar

Simple syrup: Now most daiquiri recipes require a simple syrup. But yall know I’m different and always doing things outside the box so instead of using a simple syrup I use strawberry puree infused with syrup. 

  • Strawberry syrup & Puree: I like the strawberry syrup because it enhances the strawberry flavor and adds little pieces of strawberries you can barely see to the drink. But the syrup, omg… is so red and sweet.
  • White Sugar: I use white sugar to sweeten the drink because using too much strawberry syrup will thin out the drink and overwhelm the other flavors. So instead I add more sweetness by using good ole white sugar.

Homemade syrup and simple syrup

Alternatives: Now if you want to use a strawberry syrup but dont have any or cant find any at the store for whatever reason, I tell you how to make it. And it’s very simple. All you need is water, strawberries, and sugar. 

  • Homemade strawberry syrup: You remove the stems, chop them up into fine pieces or blend them, then add them to a pot of water and sugar and simmer over low or medium heat until it thickens into a jam.
  • Homemade simple syrup: This is much easier because you’re just using water and sugar. All you have to do is combine water and sugar, and simmer over low or medium heat until you get a syrup like consistency.

Lime and Lemon juice

Fresh lime and lemon juice: Lime or lemon (Iime is more traditional and common in daiquiri) adds some citrus and tart to what’s a pretty sweet cocktail. The balance and depth of flavor it adds is what make this drink so good.

  • Lime Juice: Lime juice isn’t as strong and bitter as lemon but it taste different. And because I love lemon in anything strawberry, I decided to add equal amounts of both and it was a hit.
  • Lemon Juice: Just like with strawberry juice I always add a squirt or two or lemon and even add lemon peelings to the pitcher of strawberry juice. Lemon just adds depth of flavor, balance, and tartness obviously.

Lime flavored Rum

Lime flavored Rum: Lime flavored rum is a great option and a quick solution to adding lime flavoring without having to use a lime. Makes for a quicker process and a good alternative if you dont have lime on hand.

Frozen Strawberries

Bagged frozen strawberries? Guess what? I use them now… it saves me the time of having to remove the leaves. The only downside to this is they tend to be smaller in size. But replacing them with fresh strawberries didn’t alter anything.

  • Best strawberries to use: Ok so I like using a sweet variety of strawberries and my personal favorite are Driscoll’s SWEETEST BATCH strawberries. They’re so big, juicy, red, and sweet. You cant go wrong with these strawberries for a cocktail.
  • Removing leaves: I remove the leaves. Adding them to the daiquiri will give it a bitter taste so I discard them and if while I’m removing the leaves, the strawberries defrost a bit. I sit them in the freezer for 30 mins.
  • Add while frozen: Add the strawberries while they’re as hard and frozen as possible so the daiquiri is nice and cold and has the consistency of a sherbert. You dont want it soupy so add them last.

Ice or no ice

  • Pros: Now with this recipe you can use ice or choose not too. The benefits of ice is it will make the drink colder and stretch it, meaning make a larger amount. You’ll notice this after adding the ice.
  • Cons: I find the ice slightly dilutes the daiquiri and takes from the overall integrity of the drink especially if not dranken immediately. If you dont drink it asap and let it sit, and melt the drink wont be as potent.

Beautify it with color

  • Traditional look: A traditional frozen strawberry daiquiri is very pink in color. So if you want to go for a more classic look than you will omit the red food coloring. It’s not really needed if you’re using strawberry syrup anyway.
  • Superficial look: A daiquiri with red food coloring may have what some people think is an artificial look but to me it makes the drink more appetizing in my opinion. Only a little is needed, you dont want the drink bloody red.

How to make frozen strawberry daiquiri

  1. Add liquor, sugar, and syrup to the blender.

Tips for best results:

  • Add strawberries last: To ensure the daiquiri is as cold as possible, I like to add the frozen strawberries last. I do to this to avoid the strawberries from defrosting. I want them cold as possible right before it’s served.
  • Red coloring: Add the food coloring after blending everything together if you’re concerned about the color being too red. You may find that you don’t need it by the time it’s all blended.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use dark rum?

Sure, you can. I’ve used it before and even used tequila, which is for margaritas, not daiquiris, because when people don’t have alcohol, they use what they have.

How to store frozen strawberry daiquiri?

All you have to do is put it in a cup and place it in the freezer. Maybe sure it’s tightly sealed though. Then sit it out and let it slow melt when you’re ready for it.

What’s a virgin frozen strawberry daiquiri?

A virgin version is one without any alcohol in it. Maybe you dont want any alcohol for a lil buzz and just want a frozen drink. If that’s the case follow the instruction and omit the alcohol.

Ingredients

  • 1 Lb of Frozen Strawberries
  • 1/2 or 3/4 Cup Bacardi White Rum
  • 1 Cup of Ice
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Strawberry Syrup
  • 1 Tsp Lime Juice
  • 1 Tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 Tsp Red Food Coloring

Instructions

  1.  Add liquor, sugar, and strawberry syrup to a blender.
  2.  Peel off the leaves of strawberries.
  3.  Add in the lime juice, lemon juice, and ice.
  4.  Add in the strawberries, then blend well.
  5.  Sprinkle in the red food coloring then blend.

Notes

If you dont want to go too heavy on the alcohol, start off with a 1/2 cup of White Rum to see if that’s enough for ya! If you feel you can use more, add another 1/4 cup.
