Hey folks, it’s Jay. I’m back with another bangin recipe. Today we’re making frozen mixed vegetables—my favorite vegetable side dish.
Now, I know frozen veggies seem like the easiest thing in the world to make. You’re probably asking yourself, “Why is he making a recipe for this?”
Well, my subscribers basically requested it. If I could get paid a dollar for every time a subscriber asked me how to make frozen veggies taste better, I’d probably be a freaking millionaire by now. Lol!
They usually want to know what I put in them to upgrade the flavor. So I’m doing a frozen-vegetable series. I’ll be sharing the exact ingredients I use to make them a lot more enjoyable.
Check out this recipe and give it a shot. If you’re not a fan of frozen vegetables, this recipe will definitely make you one.
Why Try This Recipe?
- Packed with nutrients: You get a healthy mix of carrots, corn, peas, string beans, and lima beans in every single spoonful.
- Goes with everything: Mixed vegetables pair perfectly with pretty much any meat you’re making. It’s the ultimate side dish to round out your meal.
- Zero prep work: Unlike fresh vegetables that take time to chop and wash, you just throw these right into a pot or skillet. Add a little broth, season ’em up, and they’re ready to serve in minutes.

The Best Size for a Family of 4 to 6
For this recipe, we’re using a 1-lb bag of frozen mixed vegetables. They usually come in 1 or 2-lb bags. If you can only find the bigger 2-lb bag, just use half of it.
A 1-lb bag is the perfect amount to feed a family of 4 to 6 people for dinner. And just in case the labels confuse anyone: 16 ounces is 1 lb, and 32 ounces is 2 lbs. Lol!
Now, if you’re cooking for 8 or more people—or if your family is full of foodies who love their veggies—go ahead and grab that 2-lb bag instead. Just double every ingredient except for the broth, since you’re basically doubling the recipe.
The Best Seasonings to Use
I get a lot of emails from followers asking how to make frozen vegetables pop. Honestly, it doesn’t surprise me at all. Unlike canned vegetables that sit in a salted liquid, frozen vegetables are packed completely plain.
They have no added sodium, which is why they taste so bland right out of the bag. They just need a little extra love to taste good.
For mixed vegetables, I like to use a specific blend of chicken bouillon cubes, garlic powder, onion powder, dill weed, and black pepper. Combining these seasonings with a little broth and butter gives the veggies an incredible flavor.
I actually served these to a friend who came over for dinner the other night. He is a very picky eater, and he usually finds a reason to complain about everything he eats.
But he couldn’t stop asking what I put in them, and he told me they were the best mixed vegetables he’s ever had. Lol! That was all the proof I needed that this recipe is an absolute winner.

Mixed vegetables taste great with almost anything, especially since they’re made up of nearly every vegetable known to man. Lol! But these are a few main dishes I think taste great paired with mixed vegetables!

Storage and Reheating
- How do you store mixed vegetables? Put your leftovers in an airtight container or a Tupperware dish. Just make sure it is tightly sealed with a lid, foil, or plastic wrap, and store it in the refrigerator.
- How do you reheat them in the microwave? Place the veggies in a microwave-safe bowl and heat them for 1 minute. If they’re not warm enough, pop them back in for another 30 seconds.
- How do you reheat them in a skillet? Place them back into a skillet over medium heat. Stir them occasionally until they are completely warm. This should take about 5 minutes.

My 8 year old went from refusing to eat vegetable to requesting them once I started using this recipe! Thank you for sharing!! I’ve shared it with all of my mom friends.
Hi Jay! Do you have to thaw the veggies before cooking, or can they be used frozen? Thanks!
This was excellent! Used about 1/2 amount of veggies so adjusted seasonings accordingly. I did not add any salt and was out of dill weed — we still loved it!! Will definitely make again!!
For me, it was too salty, so I solved it by adding in another pound of veg after I tasted it and a tad of sugar to cut the salt and it was then fine- I would not use 2 bouillon… love your site.
Thanks so much. This was so easy and delicious with my baked salmon. God bless you and your loved ones.💕🙏🏾
I admit, I was a bit skeptical that this would make much difference in how my frozen mixed veggies taste versus just heating them on the stove or in the microwave and adding some butter and seasoning, but I tried it because I wanted to spruce them up. It is a very good recipe. The texture was perfect.
Thanks for posting! I had a friend over for dinner, and she took the leftovers home for her lunch the next day.
Glad you enjoyed the mixed veggies, Sonja!
Wish I’d done a bucket full !
Thanks phillyboy 👏👏
You’re welcome! Glad you liked them. 🙏🏾
To drain or to not drain the juice? That’s my only question. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to drain😩 still yummy drained.
There usually isn’t much juice left when I make this recipe but that could be because our stoves/pots/pans are different. Doesn’t matter if you drain the juice or not.
What a great side dish! I made this recipe for my children and they loved it, and even asked for more. Please continue with your great recipes!
My palate was very satisfied! Thank You:)
Where is your shepherd pie recipe? Can’t find it on pininterest
It’s on YouTube!
If I were to make this for about 30 people, how many pounds woule I buy? Also, what would be the measurements of the ingredients?
I used the Beef Better Than Boullion stuff and a cup of water because I didn’t have chicken broth and chicken boullion cubes. But with the seasonings and butter this is really good.
I love that
This is SO good, but yet easy! I use applewood smoked sea salt instead of the bouillon cubes and throw in a couple of my fav all-purpose seasonings with some garlic pepper. I don’t even need meat; I can eat this alone. LOVE this recipe!
Wow, everybody loved them!!! Great recipe, will make that again!!!
Delish!!! I am sure to pick up a big bag of frozen veggies on my Costco runs!
I’m a first timer, I was searching for a new way of preparing mixed vegetables. Once I try your recipe I will post a comment.
