This juicy flavorful baked steak will soothe ya soul, so give it a shot. Boneless baked steak and potatoes can’t get any better than this folks!

Hey folks it’s PBJ and I’m back with another delicious easy-to-make recipe. This time, I will be showing you how to make a dish that was very popular on my YouTube channel back in 2016 but didn’t have any measurements.

I’ll be posting a lot of old dishes that my longtime supporters still love to this day but with measurements. It’s not a recipe with measurements right?

Classic 2016 YouTube Video

For those of you who may be new or might not know this, I started uploading cooking videos to YouTube in 2014. I was one of the originals as my supporters always say.

And I uploaded videos showing people how to make a lot of good dishes we all loved but I never planned on doing this long term or creating a website which came 2 years down.

So a lot of my best work came before 2016 when I created this site and was done without measurements. I’m old school and learned how to cook from my grandma’s Viola, Gwen, and Alice Mae.

They’re all southern women who cooked from the soul and measured with their eyes. They were so experienced at cooking as many of you and I am and so they could just look at food and tell how much season it needed.

And whenever they’d make a salad or pie or something, they would give it a taste test and add a little more of this and a little more of that.

Many of my fans are cooking novices but many are experienced home cooks and some are either chefs or aspiring chefs and they look at my videos to get new ideas on how to make something they already know how to make.

But I wanted to start giving my dishes measurements because every time you cook something, it doesn’t always taste as good each time.

But if you give your dishes exact measurements, it will taste the same every time and it will be easy for people who love my recipes to remake them.

They won’t have to guess amounts and their food ends up coming out not tasting that great. I want their results to be very similar or almost exact to mine and that’s the benefit of creating recipes for dishes.

Why I love this recipe

Ok so now that that’s all out the way let me talk about what I like about this dish! First off I love steak like most, but I especially love tender steak smothered with gravy or sauce.

Now this steak recipe doesn’t have a gravy but more of a liquor that thickens the next day. It’s the perfect main dish for a small family or for a romantic dish for a couple of 2.

No better thing to make for a romantic dinner than a nice juicy tender steak and if that’s what you’re looking for this recipe is IT YALL!!! So let me talk about the ingredients and how to make this delicious baked steak.

How to make oven-baked steak

  1. What we’re going to do first is slice the boneless chuck steak into smaller pieces. It’s much easier to do this if the steak is frozen because if it’s not, slicing the steak, which is slippery, will be very difficult!!

  2. Add the steak to a medium size bowl, poke a bunch of holes in the steak with a knife, then add in the Worcestershire, minced garlic, 2 tsps of garlic juice, and chop up the onions.
  3. Then add in the seasonings, and chopped onions to the bowl too. Cover with plastic wrap and set in the refrigerator for a minimum of 4 hrs and a maximum of 1 day. You don’t need to marinate it any longer than that.

  4. Preheat your oven at 350, then add steak and water to a baking dish, cover with aluminum foil, and bake for 1 hour.
  5. Remove and add in the potatoes and steak sauce, which is optional, and continue baking for another 30 minutes.

Key ingredients and alternatives

Boneless chuck steak: Chuck steak is one of my favorite parts of beef because it’s tender and has a nice amount of fat.

  • Sirloin steak: This is an excellent chuck roast substitute because it is tender, lean, and full of a meaty taste.
  • Butter Steak: Butter steak, which is also very tender is the perfect replacement for boneless chuck steak.
  • Rib Eye steak: This is all of our favorite steak because of it’s flavor and it can be used to make this recipe as well.

Minced garlic: You can make steak without garlic. Garlic is to steak what gravy is to rice and cheese is to pasta! Lol! I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a steak recipe that didn’t have garlic SOMETHING listed as an ingredient.

And in my recipe, I use a combination of minced garlic and granulated garlic because I think the dish taste better when I use both.

  • Garlic Paste: Garlic paste is the best substitution for minced garlic. I personally think it taste a lil better but because the original recipe called for minced garlic I stuck with it. You can replace the minced garlic with garlic paste and stick with the same amount.
  • Granulated Garlic and Garlic Powder are also great alternatives you just can’t use the same amounts. Look at the photo below to figure out what amount you would use to replace the minced garlic.
  • Garlic cloves: Garlic cloves can be used. Just put them in a processor or blender before adding them to the steak. First put them in a bowl with a little olive oil.

Then, cover them, and warm them up in the microwave until they soften. Or… just chop them with a chef knife into very small pieces and add them to the steak.

You have a lot of options when it comes to garlic cloves. I just use store-bought minced garlic because I’m lazy but garlic cloves are fresh and will give you better results.

  • Seasoning salt: I love seasoning salt!!! It’s the best all-purpose seasoning in my personal opinion. I love it because of its flavor but also because of the color it gives dishes. Below are a few good substitutions if you don’t have seasoning salt on hand.
  • Adobo seasoning: Adobo would be the best option. I love Adobo seasoning I always tell people it tastes like the seasoning in the pack of oodles & noodles.

It’s another great all purpose seasoning and it taste great on steak so if you don’t have any seasoning salt, this is your best second option.
  • Steak seasoning: Seasoning salt is a great seasoning. I love complete seasoning over steak seasoning which I rarely use but this is steak so steak seasoning definitely works.
  • Salt: Salt is an option but… but… you will have to lessen the amount by about half because it’s much more potent than the two seasonings above.

Salt to taste

If you’re someone who can’t have a lot of salt, are conscious about your daily sodium consumption, or just don’t care to have a lot of salt in your food, I would recommend you add salt to the steak once it’s done to avoid ruining the dish.

There is nothing worse than spending hours making a dish only for it to be too salty for you to eat and enjoy. So here’s what I recommend, season the steak once it’s done until it’s seasoned to what you desire.

Also, if ever you follow a recipe similar to this where you find that the meat is too seasoned, you can simply rinse the meat with water and add it back to the baking dish for a little while.

This won’t work for all recipes but for one like this, it would. You could just rinse the steak and then let it cook a little longer to brown and crisp up again.

Frequently asked questions

Can you replace the water with beef broth?

You could but beef broth has a lot of sodium in it and the steak is already well seasoned with the seasoning salt and the A1 sauce which has salt in it. So beef broth would be adding additional sodium to a dish that already has a pretty high amount of sodium in it. So water is all that’s needed.

How do you store it?

The best way to store this dish is to cover it with plastic wrap and sit it in the refrigerator. You can also place it in a ziploc bag and store it in the freezer if you think you may want to save it for a much later date.

How to reheat it?

You can reheat it in the microwave but that may dry it out if you keep it in there too long on high heat so be mindful of that. I usually put my steak in a skillet with a splash of water until it’s hot all the way through.

  1. I am making this as we speak! I made it like you did on utube video .. mmm.. yes, after 2 days of marinating.. glory to God! It smelled so good, meat already falling apart too ! ..’also in the video u cooked the potatoes with the steak, but on the print out online .. the recipe added the potatoes in after an hour then cook another 30.. so I did it exactly like you did it in the video.. and I usually cook mines with my meat too.. anyways .
