I know yall will love it as much as I do.
Hey, PBJ’s. I’m back with another delicious, simple, and easy-to-make frozen vegetable recipe. This has become sort of like a series, huh? Because I’ve posted four frozen vegetable recipes in the past two weeks. Haha!
But I’m excited because even though these may seem pretty simple, Many people find it challenging to make frozen veggies taste as good as fresh, often calling them bland. That’s exactly why I created these recipes.
Not just because they’re a good option for people who want something fast and tasty to cook, but because many people simply don’t know how to make frozen vegetable pop, so I’ll show you how in this recipe.
What makes this a good frozen broccoli recipe?
- A great alternative: Frozen broccoli makes a great, budget-friendly alternative to fresh. It’s readily available in stores and healthier than canned options, making it a smart substitute when fresh isn’t available.
- Easy to make: Frozen broccoli is incredibly easy to cook and practically foolproof. Simply add a bag to a pot with a few key ingredients, simmer for a few minutes, and it’s ready to enjoy.
- Simple ingredients: No fancy ingredients here—just simple seasonings you likely already have: salt, garlic powder or paste, black pepper, broth, and a little butter.
I grew up eating frozen vegetables
I grew up eating frozen vegetables. My mother was a single mom on a fixed income, but she made sure all of our needs were met and that we had food in our stomachs. One thing I love about my mom is…
She was a very young mom, but she cooked like an older woman. She rarely ordered out and always made sure we had a home-cooked meal to eat. And because she didn’t make much and was balancing college at the time…
She made sure to stretch her money by getting the most for the little money she had. She did that by stacking the fridge with food that was on sale, and that would last. So she didn’t buy expensive food; she shopped at the great-value grocery stores in the neighborhood.
One is still around in Philly; it’s called Save A Lot. The other one that’s been closed for some time now was Murray’s. She bought food that stretches, which means food you can make a big dinner with while using a little, like potatoes, pasta, ground beef, etc.
Or reasonable foods you can make big dishes out of that will last a while. Frozen vegetables were one of them. Back then, they were like 99 cents dollars for a 16-oz bag. She would fill our freezer with so many bags of frozen corn, spinach, green beans, collards, broccoli, and meats.
Cooking foods like frozen vegetables that didn’t take long helped her cook without tiring herself out and still be able to divide her time appropriately to do other things like clean up the house and attend to us, her children.
A recipe for busy parents and students
This recipe was part of my quick and under-30-minute recipes segment on my YouTube channel years ago. In this segment, I posted simple recipes for young, busy parents who have children to attend to after work.
And for college students who may not be that experienced in the kitchen and who want a quick, easy way to make delicious meals without having to stand over a stove monitoring food for 2 hours just to make dinner for themselves.
I did this because I had received many comments from people with children asking me to do a segment on easy, simple meals that can be put together in about 30-45 minutes so they can attend to their children and not give all their time to cooking, just like my mom did.
I decided to focus on a quick way to make vegetables since I had already done quick under 30-minute main dish and starch recipes. To get started on this quick, easy recipe, check out the ingredients and tools you’ll need below.
What you need:
- Vegetables: Frozen broccoli and garlic paste
- Liquid: Chicken broth
- Seasonings: Salt, Garlic powder, and Black pepper
- Fat: Butter
Tools:
- Saucepan: Make sure you have a saucepan to cook the broccoli in; a medium-sized pot will work.
- Slotted spoon: Stir and serve the broccoli using a slotted spoon. The spoon has holes in it to strain any juice while serving.
- Measuring Cup: Use a measuring cup to measure the broth accurately.
- Measuring Spoons: You’ll need spoons to measure the butter, paste, and seasonings.
Key Ingredients
- Garlic paste: I love garlic paste and it’s a match made in heaven for broccoli. Salt for taste and garlic for flavor is all you need for broccoli. And I find garlic paste packs a potent garlicky (for lack of better word) flavor.
- Broth: I steam my vegetables in chicken broth, but vegetable broth works too. This simple step adds rich flavor and keeps you coming back for more. The broth and in some cases, chicken bouillon cubes is why people love my veggies so much.
- The seasonings: Salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. These are the perfect combination of seasonings for broccoli and give them an amazing flavor without overpowering the broccoli. This is a vegetable side dish so you dont want to do to much.
- Butter: Butter makes everything taste better, and I add it to all my veggies. It’s optional, though, so if you’re trying to avoid fat, you can definitely omit it. The butter adds flavor, and with the garlic paste and broth, it creates a light liquor, if you will, to drizzle over the broccoli.

All I can say is WOW! I made it exactly as written, except that I added a splash of lemon juice at the end to brighten it up. DELISH!
Hey Jay
Love your video for Salon patties, however I can’t seemed to find the recipe on your website.
That’s my comment up there lol
The best broccoli recipe! Delicious!!
Glad you liked it, Stacy 🙂
Would this work well with unsalted butter and unsalted chicken Broth?? Thank you
Hey Travis. That’s what I use. We restrict salt in the house so unsalted butter is our go to.
I did add just a sprinkle of Himalayan salt but I don’t think it needed it. The combo of the garlic powder and pepper gave it so much flavor.
WELCOME BACK!!! Your recipes have my family asking for more, I was gonna be selfish and keep you to myself but I shared your site with my homies.
