Macaroni and cheese is a creamy, cheesy stovetop mac and cheese dish made with milk, butter, and cheddar cheese. It’s the perfect side dish for children and a great alternative to baked mac & cheese.
Let me first start off by saying… I CAN NOT express how much I love cheesy creamy stovetop macaroni & cheese. I JUST LOVVVVVVITT!!!! Yes, LOVIT! Pasta and cheese? Can you think of a better combination? Nothing taste better together, except for maybe peanut butta & jellay! lol
How to Make the Best Stovetop Macaroni and Cheese
I’m going to show you how to make one of the best stovetop macaroni and cheese recipes out there, and how to make it without eggs or flour, YUCK! In my opinion, it’s totally unnecessary to use flour or eggs, which most people tend to use to thicken the cheese sauce and to get a certain texture.
I use to use it too but flour and eggs nomore!!! To me it takes away from the taste and over complicates things so below You will learn how to make stovetop mac n cheese without flour and eggs.
When I was about 13 yrs old my elders began trusting me enough to watch over my younger siblings & cousins while they were out and about handling business. And so you know how picky children (5-9) can be when it come to food… their taste buds just don’t seem to operate like us grown folks taste buds do.
But the one thing we all loved and had an affinity for was some creamy cheesy stove top macaroni n cheese. Noooooooo, not the stiff baked mac and cheese that most of us love, but the ooey, gooey, mac & cheese that slides right off ya spoon, you know, the kind kids love.
And so that’s the one easy thing I would always make for my younger siblings and cousins when I would baby sit them… and of course, my parents wouldn’t dare allow me to bake anything at that age, so when it came to making macaroni & cheese, stove top was the only option! lol
Now I don’t know when some of you reading this were born but im a late 80’s baby and a 90’s kid… So I can vividly remember the mid 90’s around 1995 or so when Kraft dropped a commercial for their Blue box Macaroni & cheese.
I was around 8 or 9 yrs old at the time. And what I remember most was my sister and I DANCING in front of the tv screen to Krafts macaroni & cheese theme song. Don’t you guys remember the little sassy black girl standing in front of the big blue box, singing to her father about what he should cook to make her happy?
The song went something like this….
“Momma’s got the night off daddies running the show… you wanna keep me happy this whatchu gotta know, I want the blues…. Kraft macaroni & cheese…. the blue box blues….. Welllll, if daddy wants to please me… he only got to CHEESE me… I want the blues!” Just look it up on Youtube, it’s cute and funny!!!
Now some folks claim that the shredded cheese that comes in the bag is bad because of the PRESERVATIVES or that it’s somehow less healthy than block cheese! Who cares, cheese isn’t very healthy anyway, especially when adding salt, sugar, butter, and other ingredients to it! If you want good mac n cheese, it’s probably not going to be very healthy because all the ingredients you use that makes it so good aren’t healthy. Besides, when has mac n cheese ever been a healthy dish???
lol I personally find that the pre-shredded cheese doesn’t stick to the macaroni as well and takes a little longer to melt and the block cheese just taste fresher and better so go that route if you can. If all you have is shredded cheese it’s no big deal. I hate shredding cheese though because once you get down to the smaller pieces you have to avoid cutting yourself with the cheese grater. Either option is fine though…. use whatever kind of cheese you like… it doesn’t taste THAT MUCH different in my opinion just make sure you’re using the same amount.
This Stovetop Macaroni and Cheese is the Best!
Guys this stovetop mac n cheese is the bizzidy BOMB BOMB!!!! And it’s the perfect lunch side dish to serve alongside some finger food like chicken tenders… children love it. I love cheddar cheese and it’s the most commonly used cheese in mac n cheese, so that’s the kind of cheese I used in this recipe. I like to get fancy when making it for myself and add other kinds of cheese but since most people love cheddar, I decided to stick with it for this recipe… I mean you can never go wrong with cheddar cheese. It’s the KING of all cheeses lol
So give this recipe a shot… i’m certain you’ll love it…I used a nice amount of whole milk but not too much milk because you don’t want to dilute the flavor of the cheese. I also used sharp Cheddar cheese to ensure it’s not bland… you know Philly boy jay’s slogan…. “I don’t do no bland food” lolol Also, feel free to substitute the Cheddar with your favorite cheese if you don’t care for Cheddar. This recipe is flexible so feel free to customize it to your liking…..
Enjoy, later!

I love this recipe and have made it for my wife and me with success every time!!
I serve this dish soon after I make it; do you have suggestions for making the dish for a pot luck?? How would I re-heat? Should I re-heat?
OMG!!!! This was the bomb. I tested this on a picky old man and he went for seconds. Definitely will make this again.
I made this last night and it was SO good! The only minor change I made was adding a few ounces of pepper jack cheese in addition to the cheddar.
I love your cooking and follow your YouTube page. From a Philly girl to a Philly guy, keep doing ya thing and inspiring me to keep trying new recipes. Making this mac tonight to go with some Oven baked BBQ chicken and sauteed spinach
Boy!!! My daughter is gonna love this. I’m an early 80s baby and I love my baked thick as a brick Mac n cheese made like the church ladies used to do when I was a kid. But my daughter likes the Blue Box, and only the Blue Box. Now IM THE ONE with the blue box blues! But this satisfies her need for more of a cheese sauce and my desire to not have macNcheese look so… kiddie and fake and actually have some taste and texture other than those doggone white packets in the Blue Box. Its THE perfect medium. Thank you.
(In other news I made your turkey for thanksgiving WINNER, that’s when I adopted you into my kitchen. Smothered baked chicken for Christmas Eve WINNER! Peach Cobbler a few nights ago KILLA!!! Almost tastes like my granny’s from back in the day, I can’t even eat cobbler because it’s never like Hera but you got that RIGHTRIGHT!!
You’re amazing! I’m finna just cook everything you post, cuz, why the heck not?! I love trying your recipes!!!!
My family didn’t like it I guess because of the sugar..It made it kind of sweet..If I decide to remake it I’m going to subtract the sugar an switch the milk..Not use to adding sugar to my meals..Which was something different..I can say this I love trying new recipes..Oh bye the way I love how you present your meals . Couldn’t help but try it..I’ll keep following you.. Can’t wait for your next upload..Have a bless day😊

Smooth recipe. The kid’s dig it. I have a question though. When are you going to get a burger recipe up in here? I had a blue cheese burger at Charlie Browns and it changed my world. I don’t even like blue cheese with salad but they made it dope. Lookin forward to seeing what you come up with. Holla!
I exchange some ingredients from your recipe. I prefer can milk instead of whole milk and I didn’t use the sugar. I was hoping I could share my Mac and cheese I did last night but I’m still going to share my comment. I hope you don’t mind that I change a little. Please add the attachments so we can upload our pictures if you don’t mind. TIA
